1. All-Terrain or Mud-Terrain Tires
Tires are usually the first upgrade—and one of the most noticeable. Most Wranglers can fit 33″ tires with little to no lift, while 35″ tires typically require a 2.5″–3.5″ lift depending on the model.
All-Terrain (A/T): Ideal for daily driving and light off-road use (e.g., BFG KO2, Falken Wildpeak AT3W)
Mud-Terrain (M/T): More aggressive off-road traction, but noisier with shorter tread life (e.g., BFG KM3, Nitto Trail Grappler, Cooper STT Pro)
2. Winch and Front Bumper Setup
A winch is one of the most useful recovery tools you can add to a Jeep. Even if you rarely use it on your own rig, it’s invaluable on the trail. Pair it with a steel bumper that includes a winch plate and recovery points.
Synthetic rope is lighter and safer than steel cable but comes at a higher cost. A 9,000–12,000 lb capacity winch is ideal for all Wrangler models.

3. LED Headlight Upgrade
Factory halogen headlights are often dim and outdated. LED upgrades dramatically improve nighttime visibility with brighter, whiter light and a sharper beam pattern.
Plug-and-play options are available for TJ, JK, and JL models, though many newer JLs already come with LEDs from the factory. Always look for DOT-approved units and anti-flicker compatibility for JK/JL applications.
4. Suspension Lift Kit

5. Additional Lighting
Spot lights and Led light bars are a must for adventuring, camping any and after dark activities. Be mindful of low quality products and if in doubt get the wiring done by a professional. whilst a fire hazard is possible the biggest issues from average lighting installations are, if not done correctly other electrical systems can shut down leaving you stranded.
6. Rock Sliders or Frame-Mounted Steps
Rock sliders protect your rocker panels from trail damage while also functioning as a step for lifted Jeeps. Tub-mounted sliders offer maximum clearance, while frame-mounted designs generally provide more strength.
TJs may require body drilling to make these kits fit.
7. Steel Front and Rear Bumpers
Steel bumpers improve approach and departure angles while adding recovery points and mounting options for winches, lights, and hi-lifts.
Stubby front bumpers increase tire clearance, while rear bumpers with tire carriers are ideal for larger tire setups.
8. Slip Yoke Eliminator (TJ Only)
The NP231 transfer case in non-Rubicon TJs can develop driveline vibrations after lifting. A Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) combined with a CV driveshaft corrects driveline angles and increases durability.

9. Axle Re-Gearing
Larger tires significantly affect acceleration and drivability. Re-gearing restores performance and keeps engine power in its optimal range.
4.56 gears: ideal for 33″ tires
4.88–5.13 gears: ideal for 35″ tires

10. Onboard Air System
Airing down improves traction on the trail, but you’ll need a way to reinflate afterward. An onboard air system makes this quick and convenient.
