Jeep Cherokee Rear Diff Oil Leak.

The Jeep Cherokee 4WD has a few common faults, one such fault is the rear diff develops an oil leak.

The most common leak is from the passenger side axle seal leaks. The oil leak runs down the diff housing and drips onto the road. These leaks can be rather aggressive which is a concern as the diff unit itself does not have a particularly large capacity.

The axle seal is the same as majority of the vehicles on the market however at first sighting this does not look like its the case. the seal is behind a small metal shield. this simply pops out after the drive shaft is removed, replace the seal and put the shield back.
