You can read up about all of these issues by clicking here. One of the very common faults to occur with the first generation XC90 is a metallic rattle noise that can start showing under heavy acceleration and progressively get worse until it's heard under all acceleration. March 2020 Special: Free Air Conditioning Treatment
Automotive Bloggers have warned consumers for many years now about the less than ethical upselling of preventative maintenance items as required repairs. In recent times (the past 5 – 10 years) we have seen motor vehicles hit the market featuring an item called a pollen filter. It can also be referred to as particle filter, a cabin filter or an air conditioning filter. These items are not an “up sell” the same way some of the other items often found on the list of “items blok

The Four Worst Cars To Buy In 2020
There is always a risk in buying a used car but these ones should be avoided at all costs. In most cases you would be better to suck on a used toilet brush then park any of these vehicles in your driveway. So here we go in no particular order, the four worst second hand cars of 2020. 1. The VW Golf 1.4 twin charged. The Golf generally is not an exceptional vehicle to start with. Combined that with the diesel emissions scam, the brand took a massive slap to the forehead, but

Holden closure: Does it really matter?
No doubt in the past week you have seen the news that GM has decided to shut down the brand that has become an Australian icon. Many are upset about this but if you look at the facts, the brand was on a massive decline since it shut down its Adelaide manufacturing many many years ago. The iconic brand once represented the hard working class of the nation, so much so that the marketing for the HQ Holden was about how you could fit a 44 gallon drum in the boot of it. In more re

Jeep Eco Diesel Oil in Coolant
There is a very common fault with the eco diesel engines fitted to a variety of the models in the Jeep range. This fault is the failure of engine oil cooler and it can cause some very major symptoms very quickly once this happens. It is a frequently occurring fault so if you own one, more than likely at some point n the life of the vehicle you will come across this issue. The Engine oil cooler fails internally. It forces the engine oil to enter the cooling system and very qui

Range Rover TDV6 Injector Problem
It is a common issue for the TDV6 engine to develop injector problems. One of two things can happen. Either the injector gets stuck open forcing too much fuel into the combustion chamber or it stops firing all together which can starve the chamber of fuel. This can cause the vehicle to do one or multiple of the following things. Misfire Bring the check engine warning light on Smoke out the exhaust Oil level to rise Cause the engine to run on Melted pistons if left for to long

Land Rover Freelander Review
The Land Rover Freelander is not a bad car. In fact of the whole Range Rover and Land Rover range currently not he market the Freelander has the shortest list of common faults. However there are a few things to look out for especially if you are considering purchasing one second hand. First up, as with all the Range Rover and land Rovers you need to be informed about the service schedules. the dealers state that they can go up to 26,000kms between oil changes. However they do

Land Rover Freelander Diff problem
The Land Rover Freelander has a very common fault which is the failure of the differential unit. This is such a common fault hat Land Rover have released a technical service bulletin relating to it. Basically the diff cant cope with the loads placed upon it and the bearing on the pinion starts to fail. The symptoms the driver will notice is a humming noise from the vehicles and in severe cases it can get to become a metallic grinding noise. There are a few things to be mindfu

Land Rover Freelander LR2 Turbo Fault
This fault applies to the LR2 2.0Lt A common fault to happen to most of the Land Rover Freelander 2 is the mechanical failure of the turbo. In most cases is Range Rovers and Land Rovers, the turbo failure is caused by oil starvation. This is not the case in the LR2 (although oil starvation will still damage these turbo chargers). The issue with the LR2 Turbo chargers is actually caused but the design and production process of the turbo and exhaust manifold. The turbo charger

Land Rover Freelander EGR Problem
As we have covered in previous articles, the vehicles fitted with the TD4 are not operating in the intended environment when the car is used for city driving and stop start driving which many of us are doing when we buy these cars. One of the ramifications of this stop start city driving is the engine is not given the opportunities it needs to “breath”. This causes a large build up of carbon on the inside of the inlet manifolds and specifically the EGR valve. Once this carbon

Land Rover Discovery 4 Review
There are a number of common faults to watch out for on the Land Rover Discovery 4. Overall these are not a bad car however consumers need to know that you are buying a high end vehicle and with that comes the high end cost of things failing and fact that the more features the car has the more failures are possible of those features. The first thing with all Land Rovers is the frequency of servicing. Land Rover advises every 26,000kms and we disagree with that. We have covere

Land Rover and Range Rover TDV6 Turbo Fault
The TDV6 engine that is fitted to both Range Rovers and the Land Rovers are common for turbo failure. As with any vehicle manufacturer the cause for this is always either oil starvation or over heating or both. The TDv6 is no different. The main cause for this failure is lack of servicing. We have covered the land rover and range Rover vehicle service schedule in another article which you can read up on here. The core point of that article is applicable with this fault. 26,00

Land Rover Discovery 4 & Range Rover TDV6 Oil Leak
The TDV6 in a Land Rover Discovery 4 has a few common faults, one of them is the oil leaks that start up from the sump gasket. This is something that is very common and almost all of them will require replacing at some point throughout the life of the vehicle. It goes without saying that you get this repair done at the same time as an oil change, this is two birds with one stone and the costs will be less for you. This oil leak is normally so bad that the vehicle will fail a

TDV6 Inlet Manifold Fault
A very common fault with the TDV6 which is fitted to both the Discoveries and the Range Rovers is for the plastic inlet manifold to split. This is a wear and tear type fault that almost all TDV6's will come across at some point throughout its life. Unfortunately the plastic just is not up to the task of the boost pressures and temperatures that are involved. The symptoms of this are the following. 1. High pitch whistle noise in the engine bay 2. Smoke from the engine bay whil

Land Rover and Range Rover Service Schedule
Land Rover and Range Rover were obviously designed and built in parts of Europe that have access to freeways and high speeds such as the autobahn in Germany. Whilst these countries also have highly congested cities similar to Sydney and Melbourne, these vehicles were not actually made for those driving conditions. In recent times the vehicle brand has become popular in affluent households across major cities and the vehicles are used for trips to shopping centers, coffee shop

Land Rover Discovery 4 Front Lower Control Arms Fault
All vehicles have a list of common faults and the Discovery 4 is no different. Various things are common across this vehicle from engine issues, oil leaks and brakes but one fault that seems to plague every single discovery 4 ever made is the bushes in the front lower control arms. This is a problem that also effects Subaru's, Mercedes Benz and Honda CRVs. That is to say this is not a design defect on Land Rovers part, rather it's a common component to wear out across many di
